But this is good news for you all! Because I'm keeping the contest open until I get back on September 14th! And also because I'm throwing in a few extra books due to feeling bad!
The ultimate winner will still receive the signed copy of Maggie Stiefvater's The Scorpio Races. But two runners up will win copies of either Delirium by Lauren Oliver OR Blood Wounds by Susan Beth Pfeffer (author of Life As We Knew It).
I haven't read Delirium yet, but here's my review of Blood Wounds:
Blood Wounds by Susan Beth PfefferMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
Definitely an interesting read... Willa's family life is convoluted and complicated, but also probably similar to a lot of modern families, with all of her step-siblings and step-parents and parents of her step-sisters and her estranged father-turned-murderer back in the home town she doesn't remember. There was a lot going on, but not in a bad way. I think the author did a great job of keeping all the varied sides of Willa's life understandable.
Personally, I had some difficulty connecting to the main character. I sympathized with her, of course, with all of the horrible things happening in her life... And I understood her choices, and by the end I came to appreciate her understated strength. I think she was just so quiet for most of the book -- we see all these things happening to her, but we don't see her reactions or what she really feels about it all.
Then again, that could have been intentional, since as a character, she bottles up all of her emotions to begin with.
I did enjoy this one. If you're in the mood for a dark contemporary read, it's worth a look!

Anyway, to win, all you need to do is COMMENT ON THIS POST. Yay, etc!
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go escape the natural-disaster-ridden East Coast and go
* I was distracted by moving everything I own up from my basement apartment to the first floor and then back down again when we got no flooding and our mayor is ridiculous for making us evacuate because we live on a hill in the first place?
Try to check out the Uwajimya (I think that's how it's spelled) Market. One of the best Asian markets I've ever seen!
ReplyDeleteHave fun, and check out an indie coffee shop or two :)
Hi I'm a fellow campaigner stopping by to say hi!! I definitely know about the planning. I always do stuff like that lol.
ReplyDeleteHello :) Hope your travels go well. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like an interesting read. Thanks for the review. I'm in your new adult campaigner group - looking forward to getting to know you throughout the campaign. :-)
ReplyDeletePlanning isn't all it's cracked up to be. Besides, I've found that my best laid plans often go totally wonky because of what I have no control over--which is mostly everything.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog. Glad I joined the Campaign to find some new writers.
