ZOMG 100 FOLLOWERS & A Contest!!!

Thank you SOOO much guys!!! I was inordinately excited to hit the big 1-0-0 this morning... okiamkindofsadsometimes. shush. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS!? I must have a giveaway!
I was trying to think of awesome prizes, like all these books I could give away... But then I was like, wait, I'm saving those for a SEKRIT PROJECT (to be revealed soonish), and also half my bookshelf is currently checked out with friends (I am a library. In case you didn't know).
SO ANYWAY. I was pondering, and utilizing way too many capital letters in my excitement, when it hit me. This is something I get emailed questions about semi-frequently from my blog, so might be something people want?
I'm offering...
(drumroll)

A manuscript read and critique! From yours truly!

Ok, before you say "pffft" (cause I know there are actual fiction house editors and agents and published authors and other kickass people who give away crits), I'm offering a FULL read! No matter how long your MS! You heard me!*

I don't want to make this super complicated. I know people are always like "do 20 million things for bonus points in my contest!" and it gets annoying. Blah. Comment here with your name (and maybe some other nice things if you want to. like how you also enjoy followers, and are addicted to Twitter or chocolate or something. whatever you want!). I will draw names from a HAT (a really spiffy steampunk hat too. Oh just wait. There will be pics! Or maybe a video if I can work YouTube**).

Also, because I do have to be slightly annoying in the hopes that more than 1 or 2 people enter, you get TWO entries (your name on 2 slips of paper in the hat!) if you Tweet this post to your friends (include me @egoodlett to let me know you did, so I can count it!).

ALSO. MS crit can be redeemed WHENEVER YOU WISH. So if you win and you don't have a MS ready to hand over to me, that's cool! Just shoot me an email when you do have one you want critiqued. :)

YAY. Entries will remain open through the end of next week (until Friday May 27th).

P.S. - if the world ends on Saturday, I promise to still read your manuscript once I acquire internet access in my publishing house's underground bunker***

* Though if your manuscript is over 100k, expect to see many big red lines through huge chunks. Fair warning.
** And by "work YouTube," I mean "rotate my iPhone videos so they aren't permanently sideways." Anyone know how to do this? *bats eyes hopefully*
*** This is not a joke. We have a bunker. They made us fill out checklists with things we want in bunker, like "phone? computer? printer?" I was like "where is the checklist for LOTS OF CANNED FOOD and maybe a BOW AND SOME ARROWS?"

  5. This is awesome! I could definitely use some help with my WIP, so I love the fact that it's redeemable at a later time (like in the fall, when my kids go back to school and maybe it'll be finished then...) I write YA, so it WILL NOT BE 100,000 words, I can promise you that! I'm still learning the whole tweet/retweet thing, but I'll do it, I promise...

    Thanks!

  6. I enjoy followers @Todd_Russell and since it's #FridayFollow the timing is good to jump in :)

Confession: I love reading and writing scary stories more than Twitter :)

  7. Okay, yes... I feel the need to have my name in a spiffy steampunk hat. lol. Follower-milestones are the best. I wanted to do a contest or something- but I have nothing to give away. I am looking at my desk- Hmmmm. A half burned candle- A pen holder made from and O.J. can (thanks to my daughter) a 1990s disc of Hoyle Card games- A pack of batteries, and a mini-stapler. Yeah- I would most likely lose followers with that sort of contest winnings. HA! Happy tweeting-

  8. Hey!! This is an awesome contest! Especially for me right now...I think that I might need a "professional" touch to my MS. CONGRATS on the 100 followers!!

  9. I'm so glad I found you on Twitter. I meet more awesome writers every day. Now that I'm following you I look forward to learning your thoughts and getting to know you.

This contest is wonderful. Any one who is offering their time to critique a whole manuscript is worthy of praise. I have a completed New Adult novel I'm getting ready to query so I'm in desperate need of any last minute help.

Let's see some things that make me smile:
    Kittens
    Contests
    Writing
    Sunshine
    Chocolate
    Mochas
    Butterflies
    Blog and Twitter friends :)

Thank you for this opportunity. I keep entering contests in the hopes of winning one. Writers have to be persistent.

  11. I'm three-quarters of the way to 100 followers myself, and already thinking about what I can do to mark my 100th. Not that I'm hinting for followers, mind you. That was pretty blatant hinting.

I'd love a crit, since we tried to hook up through AW as betas last year and weren't able to make it happen. I'll be doing some revisions and would love your fresh eyes. Not like in a jar or on pasta or anything, I mean a fresh look at my ms.

And congrats on the 100+ followers.

  14. Just when I started thinking "Hmmm... If things go well I'll be looking for beta readers by the end of next month."
This is a very good idea and I might steal it some day. But not now, my schedule couldn't possibly allow it.
And I do the happy dance every time I get a new follower. ;)
    I have RT-ed your Tweet. ;)

  15. Thanks to @LeahPetersen on Twitter, I found you and your blog, and I'd love for someone who doesn't have to be nice to me (i.e., family and friends) critique!

  16. Grats on hitting three figures! :D

I likes me some Twitter followers -- and I want them all to be as cool as the tweeps I follow. (That's why I don't have 200 yet, LOL.) And, yanno, I don't care if everyone I follow reciprocates, as long as they are fun/interesting to follow. Twitter gets my head out into spaces I might not otherwise encounter.

Here I've been thinking, wouldn't it be loverly to get just one more reader clawing at my soul with concise, cutting comments. Got this novel sittin' around.... ;-)

  17. I am shameless and I'm totally in it for the critique. (Kidding! Although I would like to have some objective feedback.)

Cool thing: I found you through @MonicaMarieH.

I'd like to be entered, please! I tweeted about it @notveryalice.

  18. Congrats on making 100 followers, and thanks so much for dedicating your time by offering this contest! :) I'm editing something right now in fact (frantically trying to get it under 100k words) so a critique would be uber-helpful.

Anyway, as for who I am ... I'm Brigid, I'm 18 years old, going to have my last day of high school in 3 days (I can't believe it).

    I'm addicted to:

    Writing (duh)
    Reading
    Blogging
Twitter (And I tweeted about this contest! @BrigidRose)
    Facebook
    Goodreads
    Coffee
    Klondike bars
    Avatar: the Last Airbender
    How I Met Your Mother
    Project Runway
    Glee
Watching bad movies so I can make fun of them

... and many other things. :)

  19. Good idea, I'd like to enter! I found your blog through 'Haley is Soldiering Through the Writing World,' and thought this contest was a good idea!

If all goes well, I'll have a rough draft of my latest project done by the end of the summer...
