I know, how stereotypical, a writer filling her house with cats! In my defense, they were irresistably cute. In fact, confession time: the point of this post is really just so I can put up adorable kitten pictures. Because everyone loves adorable kitten pictures!
(Boggart sleeping on my roomie's computer. He loves computers almost as much as he loves clawing his way onto your shoulder to sleep under your chin, and meowing pitifully whenever you move so you're basically trapped in your seat forever.)
Tonks, on the other hand, is content to attack your toes and sleep on your lap, rather than mauling your hands and sleeping in your face.
(my little Halloween cat.)
You might not be able to tell from these pictures, but these kittens have really strange fur. I've never seen it on a cat before -- it looks almost like husky fur, because it's dark at the base of the hairs, and gray/white at the tips. They have faint tabby stripes under that, but almost Siamese-looking facial features. But since their litter of 6 was found without the mother, there was no way to tell what breed they were.
We did some research, and that's when we learned about Chausies. Specifically, the "black grizzled tabby" version.
Chausies are bred from the wild Jungle Cats, Felis chaus, that the Egyptians once domesticated. Kitten pictures from breeders look pretty much just like these guys, and the personality traits sound spot-on (intelligent, need to be in the middle of everything, great with people but probably bad to have around small children, etc).
There's no way to tell if these guys are purebred, though considering they were found on a streetcorner in Brooklyn, I'm inclined to doubt it. But they are definitely the most unique kittens we saw in our hunt!
(Boggart likes to sneak-attack from under the dining room table. Or anywhere, really.)
So glad to have cats in the house again. I've been missing the sound of hyper-running in the middle of the night, howling when you don't feed them immediately, and tiny fluffy bodies jumping all over your keys as you try to wri03954444444444444444444444444444444

Too cute! I"m looking for a kitty too! Happy snuggles with the little furries. :)
ReplyDeleteOkay, they are really cute and I don't blame you for wanting to dedicate a post to them! Enjoy!!
ReplyDeletedude, those are some strange looking, beautiful kitties, perfectly befitting a very non-stereotypical gal! i still love that side profile shot of the black one.
ReplyDeleteThey're adorable. I've never heard about chausies before.
ReplyDeleteMy two cats are brothers and I got them when they were kittens. I didn't want just one.
