Confessions of a Readaholic

Confession number one: I watched Confessions of a Shopaholic last night.
No, I wasn't expecting much - romantic comedies pretty much always feature the same predictable plots and generic happy endings. But I enjoy watching them every now and again, just as a pick-me-up.
This time, however, I found it harder than usual to sympathize with the main character. I spent most of the movie making a face as she picked out progressively uglier designer clothes, and wondered how on earth someone could get to be 16,000+ dollars in debt buying Gucci. Firstly, their handbags look large enough to hold half my wardrobe, and secondly, Chinatown carries near-perfect knockoffs for a fraction of the price. By the end of the movie, I was staring open-mouthed at the main character's overstuffed closets and bedroom. I own a lot of clothes - but if I ever have that many, someone needs to send me to Clutterers Anonymous.
Then, feeling very good about myself, I walked upstairs and opened my bookshelf, only to be attacked by an avalanche of hardcovers. OK, perhaps I am not as clutter-free and thrifty with money as I think. Instead of using the library, I tend to buy the books on my reading list. And instead of waiting until they come out in paperback, I'll splurge for a hardcover.
Good thing books don't come in designer label-versions, or I'd be in real trouble.
Oh wait... Maybe sometimes they do...
