I love book matchmaking. Whenever one of my friends tells me they need a new book for their morning commute, or they haven't read any good books lately, I pounce all over that.
Our conversations usually go: "What kind of stuff do you like? Oh, memoir/fantasy/sci-fi/literary? Have you tried this one or this or this or..." and so on. There's little in the world more satisfying than sharing a great book with someone (it's why I write, too -- because I love sharing stories).
So when an opportunity arose to write some book reviews for my hometown paper, I leapt at the chance. It's a type of writing I haven't tried before (aside from the occasional Goodreads review I'll dash off, but I've been slacking on even those lately), but I love the idea that people might see my review, think "oh hey, I enjoy stories like this one" and pick up a new book to read.
Plus, it's a chance to expand my own writing experience!
And today my first "real" book review ran in the Books insert of the Sunday paper. Check out my thoughts on Rebecca Dana's fun memoir, Jujitsu Rabbi and the Godless Blonde!
