Fear Project Book Launch

In an extremely appropriate premiere event, given the name and subject of his book, The Fear Project, author Jamie Patrick swims across San Francisco Bay to his launch party.

While I appreciate that if you're writing what seems to be a non-fiction/self-help style book about fear, you're probably not going to bat an eyelash at doing something like this for your debut, I would just like to say... YOU COULD NOT PAY ME ENOUGH MONEY IN THE WORLD TO DO THIS.

Swim across the Hudson river? Ok. Maybe. I'll probably die of some kinda toxic shock within 10 minutes of emerging, but if you're paying me a zillion bucks to do it, I could then afford medical care!

Swim across some other large stretch of ocean/bay/lake type area? It would creep me out to do it on the surface (I'm a diver, I prefer submersion), but sure. Why not.

Jump out of a plane and/or bungee jump from a bridge to attend my launch party? Hells yes.

Swim across the bay with one of the highest known populations of Great White Sharks in the world (second only to some place like Seal Island, where they have a breeding ground and a snack section all in one)?

NOPE.

In all srsness though, this is a pretty cool idea for a book launch. Even if it would give ME a heart attack. Which I suppose just makes it all the more apropos.

Now, if I have a launch party, does this mean I need to arrive via gondola? I THINK YES. ahem.
